What is your earliest memory of the ocean?
My earliest memory of the ocean is swimming and snorkeling while vacationing with my parents and sister on the coasts of Florida and North Carolina. We loved to "ride the waves" on a boogie board.
Why did you choose to get involved with an organization focused on ocean conservation?
I chose to get involved with a non-profit in RI based on my professional background.... and it happened to be focused on ocean conservation. I have always loved the passion and mission that unites a non-profit staff and Sailors for the Sea is no exception! It does not take long living near the ocean to realize the immediate need to protect it.
What was your "aha moment" that turned you into a conservationist?
I try to model being a life-long learner to my children and my involvement with Sailors for the Sea has turned me into a conservationist. We started small by eliminating single use water bottles from our home and spending time on the water and recycling has become the new normal for our home. As our understanding of ocean health issues continues to grow, we look forward to finding many more ways we can help save the ocean.
