Blue Seafood Festival

 July 31, 2014  | By: Oceana

Last week, Sailors for the Sea Japan hosted the first Blue Sea Food Festival – celebrating sustainable seafood. The event was presented in partnership with TV Asahi at the Roppongi Hills Arena in Tokyo. The event was also attended by Seafood Watch from Monterey Bay Aquarium, Seafood Smart TV, and Greenpeace.

Over 500 people visited the arena to learn more about the Blue Seafood Guide, recently published by Sailors for the Sea Japan. The main stage featured speakers talking about sustainable seafood and organic products, while a catering and retail market shared more information and products. Additionally the Tuna trading company, Japan Sailing Association, Japan Sea Cadet Federation, and Japan Organic Association helped with the event.

The Blue Seafood Guide, created by Sailors for the Sea Japan highlights sustainable seafood options and is targeted specifically to fish species commonly eaten in Japan. It is the first of its kind in Japan, and was created with funding from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
