Are you looking for some fun outdoor activities for the family this spring?

Look no further than the Volvo Ocean Race Stopover in Newport, RI! It is a must see event to kick off the warm weather. This grueling around-the world sailing competition will be arriving in Newport from Itajaí, Brazil in just a few short weeks. The Race Village, located at Fort Adams State Park, will be open May 5-17 with live entertainment, food and activities for everyone.

What makes the Newport an exceptional port?

The Exploration Zone located in the heart of the Race Village, the Exploration Zone officially opens Saturday, May 9th at 10 am and will be full of fun activities for all ages. With 22 interactive exhibits, visitors will learn about marine life, sailing, ocean conservation, weather and marine technology. Kids will even get to try on SCUBA gear, get up close and personal with the ocean’s tiniest creatures, make recycled paper, and experience what life is like as an oceanographer or sailor! The Exploration Zone is sure to have something exciting for the whole family.

In addition to the Exploration Zone, the Newport Stopover Race Village will also have a full scale cross section of a Volvo 65, the Volvo Cinema with films about the race as well as an interactive quiz show program, a rock climbing wall, and the Try Sailing program.  The Race Village official opening will be on Tuesday, May 5th and will be open everyday from 10am to 7pm until the boats leave on May 17th.
