Noora Westerlund - Sailors for the Sea

Noora Westerlund

“I believe that leading by example is one of the most efficient ways of driving change within our sport.”

Noora Westerlund is a Finnish doublehanded offshore sailor and the current Chair of both the Finnish Offshore Racing Association and the Race Management Committee at the Offshore Racing Congress. In these positions, she works to promote more sustainable regatta practices and encourage the sailing community to reduce its environmental impact. Through her volunteering as a race and regatta manager, Noora takes the best practices to action with the belief that leading by example is one of the most efficient ways of driving change within our sport.

Noora grew up spending summers on the Baltic Sea and, over the past four decades, has witnessed firsthand how dramatically the condition of her home waters has changed. She has prioritized the health of the sea in her recreational sailing and professional life. Noora’s work is focused on tackling the global Sargassum crisis by developing a regenerative value chain to address the global problem. She sees protecting our oceans as a responsibility to the waters that have shaped her life and continue to carry her through it.
