Worth My Salt - Sailors for the Sea

Worth My Salt

 May 12, 2015  | By: Oceana

This week Sailors for the Sea staff and many amazing volunteers are working at the Volvo Ocean Race Village Exploration Zone! The Exploration Zone is located in the heart of the Race Village and is full of fun activities for all ages with 22 interactive exhibits. Visitors are able to learn about marine life, sailing, ocean conservation, weather and marine technology.

Our exhibit is dedicated to educating visitors about ocean acidification and how the ocean’s changing chemistry is detrimental to coral reefs. Interactive videos explain the chemical process of ocean acidification and after visitors have learned what carbon dioxide does to the ocean, they have the opportunity to take the NT3 pledge to reduce their carbon footprint and help protect the waters they love!

After taking the pledge, visitors are able to show off that they are “#worthmysalt” and get their picture taken with Sammy the Shark! Pictures of school groups that came to visit over the past few days can be seen in the slideshow above and you can view many more on our facebook page

Visit the exploration zone, open from now until May 17th. If you can’t make it down to Newport, you can still join in and pledge to protect the ocean: sailorsforthesea.org/nt3
