America's Cup kicks off - Sailors for the Sea

America’s Cup kicks off

 July 16, 2013  | By: Oceana

Sailors for the Sea is on the ground and excited to be part of the action in our role as the Official Clean Regattas Partner of the 34th America’s Cup. Over the next couple months we’ll give you a window into the Clean Regattas initiatives that the America’s Cup is taking through this blog, but we wanted to start with a peak at the venue.

The America’s Cup Park is the heart of the action for spectators. From the end of the pier at the park spectators have a great view for  watching the races. The park is a great place to hang out and relax as well, so if you are down here enjoying a beer at the beer garden or grabbing a bite to eat, Sailors for the Sea would like to point out that the America’s Cup has pledged to be zero waste and that there are recycle stations conveniently located where you can recycle and compost all of the service wear.

Marina Green is home to the America’s Cup Village and another great place to catch the excitement of the racing.  With the Golden Gate Bridge as the dramatic backdrop you can get up close and check out an AC 45 that is on display.  Also, currently on the green is The America’s Cup Healthy Oceans Project Lounge.  At Healthy Oceans you can take few minutes to make a pledge to help our environment and learn more about marine protected areas, sustainable seafood, and marine debris and plastics.  Speaking of reducing plastic in the ocean you can refill your water bottle for free from the water station, BYO bottle.
