Five Exciting Updates for Clean Regattas 2021

 February 5, 2021  | By: Paige Myatt

Sailors for the Sea’s Clean Regattas program is the world’s leading sustainability certification for all on-the-water events. Since the program’s inception in 2006, more than 2,600 events with 715,000 sailors and attendees have participated in Clean Regattas in 40 countries across the globe.

Based on feedback from dedicated Clean Regattas organizers and volunteers, we have made some exciting updates to our Clean Regattas program for 2021. Some highlights of changes include:

1. New 2021 Clean Regattas Toolkit: We added innovative solutions and pictures for many of the Best Practices which have been generously shared by organizers from around the world. To gain access to the new toolkit, we ask that you please log in to register an event.

2. Updated Best Practices: Based on feedback from the Clean Regattas community, we amended the Green Boating section to include: Use Eco-Smart Race Management Techniques, Prevent Toxins from Entering the Water, and Encourage Green Boating Practices.

3. Sustainability Report Library: Check out these reports from recent Gold and Platinum level regattas if you are looking for ideas to incorporate at your event.

4. Platinum Level Sustainability Report Generator: If you’re are aiming for Platinum level or are interested in creating a sustainability report for your event, we designed a tool that automatically generates a report when you provide a description of your efforts and upload pictures of each Best Practice.

5. Highlight the class or classes of boats competing at your event: We are in the process of starting a Clean Class Initiative, where entire classes of boats will be working towards sustainability goals. Answering this question in your registration will help us gather data to inform how we grow this program next year.

We would like to give a special thanks to those Clean Regatta organizers who offered their feedback on the program and uploaded photos from their events. Thanks so much for your dedication to running sustainable events.

The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged many events we work with, from being postponed or cancelled to figuring out how to run the event in a safe, sustainable manner. We encourage you to register your event, even if it is uncertain if it will happen. We are here to help support your efforts in any way we can. We look forward to sharing more of your success this year and beyond!
