The Clean Class Initiative is growing beyond solely boat-based classes with our newest addition. The International WingSports Association (IWSA) officially joins Sailors for the Sea as a Clean Class today, committing to sustainability in their WingFoil Racing World Tour. We are excited to see the Initiative include newer classes, demonstrating that all recreators have the ability and responsibility to protect our oceans and waterways.

The IWSA was founded to give the best wing riders a platform to compete in fair competition, managed by World Sailing International Race Officials. The IWSA WingFoil Racing World Tour comprises of a wide range of events, from local, regional and continental up to the elite WingFoil Racing World Cups, creating a pathway for development and growth at the grassroots level while showcasing a young, exciting expression of sailing at the top end. Their ambition and dedication to the next generation of sport includes prioritizing sustainability.

“We are incredibly honored to be recognized as a Clean Class by Sailors for the Sea,” says Mirco Babini, President of the IWSA. “This acknowledgment reflects our unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility within the sailing community. At the IWSA, we aim not only to protect our seas and natural environments but also to foster positive change in the communities we touch through our global events. By promoting sustainable practices and engaging with local communities, we hope to leave a lasting, positive impact that extends beyond the sport.”

The WingFoil Racing community is fast-growing and developing around the globe. It is young, inclusive, and combines the informality and vibrancy of the beach with the top elite sport of sailing, presenting an exciting new opportunity to connect with new athletes and a new generation of sports fans. “I’m so excited to have the IWSA join the Clean Class Initiative,” shares Emily Conklin, Sailors for the Sea’s Program Manager. “Working with this emerging sailing format allows us to bring the Clean Regattas Program and our sustainability initiatives to a broader audience. Sailors of all kinds have the power to make a positive environmental impact, and we’re excited to support WingFoil Racing throughout their international circuit!”
