Sarah "Say" Craig - Sailors for the Sea

Sarah “Say” Craig

Sarah “Say” Craig is a passionate environmental activist and outrigger canoe racer, using her paddle to raise awareness.

From a young age, Say learned that ignoring waste was becoming the norm. When working as a janitor in high school, she often found herself in a dumpster, trying to fit in all the trash because her employer didn’t want to pay for more trash pickups. After securing a degree in Women and Gender Studies, Business and Dance from the University of Oregon, Say found a path into the film industry where she manages some projects that often still allow waste management to be an afterthought. She is working to infiltrate this system and still sometimes finds herself jumping in dumpsters as a producer, trying to fit all the trash in.

With her passion for Outrigger Canoe, Sarah paddles long distances, including the WA360, Seventy48, Crossing for Cystic Fibrosis and various other solo adventures to bring awareness to the trash crisis.  She founded the Environmental Committee for the Southern California Outrigger Racing Association which is reaching around the US and into other international Paddle communities. Sarah has a long-term project of cleaning a creek in Oregon that has been blocked by foam for 30 years; her dream is to someday paddle this creek all the way to the ocean.

Say is founder of Trash Tramp, a company whose sole purpose is to help paddlers and other humans lighten their footprint on this planet through sports, media, and other connections. She is grateful for all the organizations helping to protect this planet and our people. She serves as an ambassador for Green the Bid and 5Gyres, a volunteer for Heal the Bay and is now grateful to be a Skipper for Sailors for the Sea!
