5 Ways to Help the Oceans on Giving Tuesday

For sailors and boaters, the oceans are not just a vast expanse of water; they are a place for adventure and a source of wonder. They are also a critical part of the Earth’s life support system and home to a staggering amount of biodiversity.

However, our oceans are facing unprecedented challenges, from pollution and overfishing to climate change and habitat destruction. But you can help. As we approach Giving Tuesday, a day dedicated to making a positive impact on the world, consider giving back to our watery planet. Here are five ways that you can make a positive impact on our oceans this Giving Tuesday:

1. Support Ocean-Friendly Policies

One of the most significant contributions you can make to help our oceans is to advocate for policies that protect marine habitats and wildlife. Whether it’s at the local or national level, every effort matters and has the potential to make a positive impact on our oceans and waterways. At Sailors for the Sea Powered by Oceana, we are actively involved in campaigns to combat the proliferation of single-use plastics, save the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale from extinction, and safeguard our coasts from dirty offshore drilling. Since 2004, we have been building a community of advocates for our oceans, helping thousands of sailing and boating events become sustainable, and empowering youth through our marine science activities.
